A workshop-style session via Zoom!
It is certainly possible with a little ingenuity.
Before the pandemic, our training sessions centered on “participatory workshops” where participants gathered around large sheets of paper to discuss ideas. However, as we shifted online, I honestly struggled with how to effectively engage team members scattered across the country. Without physical paper sheets, the biggest challenge was figuring out how to recreate the same level of energy and enthusiasm during discussions.
After some trial and error, we adopted a format where teams were assigned and leaders selected the day before the session, with discussions taking place in Zoom breakout rooms. We also established a workflow where AI prompts were shared via chat, individuals generated outputs using their own AI tools, results were presented through screen sharing, and the leader provided a summary at the end.
Having tried this approach, I’ve realized that with the right adjustments, it is entirely possible to generate that same “participatory energy” online. Even if the format changes, the essence of the learning experience remains the same.
